Must-Read News

With the 2010 elections resulting in a shift in control of the US House of Representatives, the postal service has come under attack from the GOP, and the media like never before. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform has already stated that among his goals are to take on postal reform, to undo our union contracts through negotiations or congressional action, and to close postal facilities and eliminate postal jobs. He, along with his henchman Rep. Dennis Ross (R-FL), who is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce, Postal Service and Labor Policy, seem to be dead set on bringing down the postal service.

On this page I will post as often as I can, news and information important to postal workers and the continued survival of the postal service. This will be done through links to articles from the National APWU website as well as various newspapers and other websites such as Postal Reporter. Check back from time to time as this page will be updated periodically with more lies and deceipt aimed at bringing down our wages and benefits, and eventually our jobs. Of course, when warranted, I will be more than happy to report good news regarding our jobs and our futures on this page as well.

September 30, 2011- Bipartisan Postal Reform Members Ask GAO to Settle Postal "Overpayment Issue" Once and for All. A bipartisan group of Congressmen and Senators, Including the Authors of H.R. 1351, and H.R. 2309, have signed a letter asking the Government Accountability Office to settle the CSRS and FERS overpayment issues. I'm leary of this letter in that I don't believe Rep. Issa or Ross would request this study unless they knew that the GAO would side with the OPM, rather than with the OIG, or the PRC, however a GAO finding that overpayments exist could deal a death blow to H.R. 2309. September 20, 2010- This is a link to the article that was the inspiration for creating this page in the first place. This editorial, written by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), was pulished in the Washington Times during the run-up to the 2010 elections and was filled with innaccuracies and misrepresentations. View the editorial here. This editorial prompted then APWU President William Burrus to post an update on the APWU National website which you can view here, as well as to write his own letter to the editor of the Washingtom Times, which you can view here.
