The local will be providing pizza, and pop for all volunteers along with a t-shirt and hat for those who are first time volunteers. Additionally, we will provide scripts and a familiarization briefing for all volunteers. If you want to help get out the vote for APWU endorsed candidates John Kerry and John Edwards when the polls open on November 2, 2004, call Sheila at 612-623-0677 and let her know you will be on hand! Our phone lines will be limited so the first 15 who call Sheila will be scheduled for this phone bank! November 2, 2004 - VOTE! Voting is Easy! It is a privilege! It is an Obligation! Your Job can be affected by it! Your family can be affected by it! And it takes less time than getting the oil changed on the family vehicle! These are just some of the reasons why people need to take the time and vote! If you have any questions we have people available to answer them and arm you with all the voting knowledge needed to make you a player and contributor in determining who will lead our country! Questions? Do you know someone who would like to register to vote? Where is my polling place? Why is the Union supporting a particular candidate over another? How much time does it take? If you or someone you know has any election related question such as those above, please call Sheila at 612-623-0677 and leave your contact information. The local will contact you and provide you with the information you have requested. WALK FOR DIABETES! It is time once again for the annual “America’s Walk for Diabetes” to raise money for the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This year’s walk will be held at the Minneapolis Metrodome. Registration starts at Noon and with the walk immediately thereafter on Sunday, November 14, 2004. Nationally, the APWU has been associated with the American Diabetes Association for many years and the Minneapolis Area Local has also embraced this worthy cause and once again we will sponsor the MAL-APWU Team by donating caps, T-Shirts, and a pizza party for our participants. All you have to do to participate is: Sign up, collect at least $100 from friends and relatives, walk or rollerblade a short distance at the Metrodome, and then be the Local’s guest at Broadway Pizza after the walk. If you are planning on being a team member, please call Marilyn Miller at (612) 349-4971 and she will be happy to answer your questions and send you a registration form. If you get her voice mail, please leave a message including the best time to return your call. Don’t let concerns about asking others for donations put you off – it is much easier than you think. You would be amazed at the number of people who give generous donations when approached about diabetes. Perhaps this is because of the surprising number of people who are either diabetic themselves or have a close friend or relative who is diabetic. Unfortunately, the disease is becoming an epidemic right now; 17 million Americans have diabetes. Those of you who have participated in previous walks and have received a registration form directly from the ADA, please call Marilyn and let her know if you are joining our team again this year. It is important we get a firm number for participation purposes. Please get involved either by participating at the walk or making a donation. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate to the public the positive activities of postal workers and your union. See you there! 2004 Faust/Terwedo Memorial Golf Tournament RESULTS A FLIGHT B FLIGHT C FLIGHT Mike Malmborg; Dave Schuette; John Marr; CLOSEST TO THE PIN: Willie McMillin LONGEST PUTT: RJ Humphrey LONGEST DRIVE: MEN: Mark Audette WOMEN: Rona Popowitz We will be in contact with the above members to award their trophies in the near future.
