Do you know who represents you?

What legislative district(s) do you live in?  Many people do not know and it is the first step in being able to identify the people who are elected to represent you at the local, state, and federal levels.  Contacting these people is easy as long as you take the steps keep informed about the basics!

How do I find out?  If you have internet access there are numerous ways one can get this information.  For local and state level representatives go to http://www.leg.state.mn.us/ and follow the directions on the home page.  For federal level go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and click House of Representatives or senate then follow the prompts.  These are just a few of the locators found on the net!

If you do not have internet access or prefer calling you can call the Secretary of States office at:  651-296-2803 or Greater MN toll free: 1-877-551-6767.  You will be given three options, press 3 for information on elections and a staff member will come on the line….Tell them you want to know who all your elected representatives are….they will ask you for your address and from this will be able to give you the entire list of your representatives, Federal, state, local, precinct information, school board, you name it!

If you are still having problems getting this information our Stewards and Officers would be happy to assist you with obtaining what you need to know…..Finally, if you do not know who your Steward is, call us at 612-623-0677 and we can help you with that information also!

Seal the Deal!

We need your involvement ...The Minneapolis Area Local along with our Twin Cities Partners, the St. Paul Area Local, Twin Cities Postal Data Center Local, and the Minnesota APWU will be pursuing measures in the Legislative arena to ensure there is full dialogue BEFORE the USPS takes action that affects postal facilities throughout the state of Minnesota!  We will work hard by visiting with legislators and letting them know why it is important to them and their constituents to demand a “transparent” USPS……Our plan will not be nearly as effective unless YOU PREPARE ….Know who all the players are so when we ask you to contact the ones who may hold your fate in their hands….you know who they are and how to do so!     Individual contact is powerful and will help us seal the deal!

2006 APWU STATE AND NATIONAL CONVENTION CALL!
Second Notice!

The 2006 State Convention will be held in Duluth, MN, April 27-29, 2006. The National APWU Convention will be held in Philadelphia, PA, August 14 – 18, 2006.

If there are any delegates who will be attending the Convention(s) at their own expense and want credentials they must contact Sheila at 612-623-0677 to let us know!

Additionally, if members have any work place issues, contract proposals, etc, they would like our delegation to propose and discuss at the conventions, let your Steward or Officer know giving them as much detail as possible about your idea.  The business of the conventions includes a major focus on attempting to identify items we want to advance in contract negotiations and we want your input!  The conventions also give our organization a chance to gauge which issues seem to be affecting the majority of locals, throughout the State and Country, and thus a sense of priority for the hundreds of proposals that will be debated and ultimately acted upon!

   Station/Associate Office Visits

During the week of April 10, 2006, your APWU Union Representatives will be visiting the Minneapolis Stations and selected Associate Offices (AOs).  We will be visiting between the hours of 8:30 AM and 2:00 PM, and time spent in each office will vary.

Due to the number of facilities we visit, our visits are brief.  However, we will be available in the break room at each Station or AO for any questions, comments, requests, or concerns you may want to address with us. . .

If you want to make sure you catch us while we are at your particular station. . .Call 612-623-0677 in advance and let us know.  If you have a question regarding whether you have a grievance or not, contact your Steward or in the absence of a Steward call Assistant Director of Stations, John Painter at 952-893-1357.
