2006 APWU STATE Convention Delegates – Please note!
DELEGATE MEETING!

There will be a delegate meeting for those who will be attending the 2006 State Convention in Duluth, MN, April 27-29, 2006.   The meeting will take place on Tuesday April 11, 2006 at 5:30 PM. If you are a delegate make plans to attend.  We will be passing on information and documents you may need once arriving in Duluth. Delegates are expected to arrive in Duluth in order to participate in Convention events that begin at 2:00 PM Thursday, April 27th.   If you are unable to attend the delegate meeting call the NE office in order to make arrangements to receive your convention information.

Additionally, if members have any work place issues, contract proposals, etc, they would like our delegation to propose and discuss at the conventions, let your Steward or Officer know giving them as much detail as possible about your idea.  The business of the conventions includes a major focus on attempting to identify items we want to advance in contract negotiations and we want your input!  The conventions also give our organization a chance to gauge which issues seem to be affecting the majority of locals, throughout the State and Country, and thus a sense of priority for the hundreds of proposals that will be debated and ultimately acted upon!

$$ CONTRACT RAISES EFFECTIVE MARCH 18, 2006

Under the terms of our 2005-2006 Contract extension agreement employees represented by the APWU will receive an additional $457.00 per year due to the March 2006 Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA).  This, along with a negotiated 1.6 % pay increase, will be reflected in pay checks of April 7, 2006.   Effective with this COLA employees represented by the APWU have received over $3,000.00 in COLAs alone since September 2002.  There will be one more COLA in September prior to our current Contract expiration in November 2006.

DO YOU KNOW WHO REPRESENTS YOU?

What legislative district(s) do you live in?  Many people do not know and it is the first step in being able to identify the people who are elected to represent you at the local, state, and federal levels.  Contacting these people is easy as long as you take the steps keep informed about the basics!

How do I find out?  If you have internet access there are numerous ways one can get this information.  For local and state level representatives go to http://www.leg.state.mn.us/ and follow the directions on the home page.  For federal level go to http://thomas.loc.gov/ and click House of Representatives or senate then follow the prompts.  These are just a few of the locators found on the net!

If you do not have internet access or prefer calling you can call the Secretary of States office at:  651-296-2803 or Greater MN toll free: 1-877-551-6767.  You will be given three options, press 3 for information on elections and a staff member will come on the line….Tell them you want to know who all your elected representatives are….they will ask you for your address and from this will be able to give you the entire list of your representatives, Federal, state, local, precinct information, school board, you name it!

If you are still having problems getting this information our Stewards and Officers would be happy to assist you with obtaining what you need to know…..Finally, if you do not know who your Steward is, call us at 612-623-0677 and we can help you with that information also!
