Flash Bulletins are paid for by members of the APWU. Information contained in these bulletins is intended for APWU members. Member questions and/or comments regarding any flash bulletin content are always encouraged. Reading of publications prepared for and financed by dues paying members by those who do not is yet one more example of non-members accepting benefits that have been paid for by others!

2006 COPA CLUB YIELDS MORE WINNERS!

According to our 2006 COPA Club rules we will draw the names of six people each and every time our COPA Thermometer reaches a two thousand dollar benchmark.  Each of our benchmark winners will receive one hundred dollars!  We have exceeded $2000 dollars in contributions and on April 18th we drew the names of six people from our list of contributors.  CONGRATULATIONS TO:  Gary Lofgren (Mpls Clerk) Phillip Snyder (MVS) Bruce Helmke (MVS) Ron Yanes (Eden Prairie Clerk) Joe Griffin (MVS) and Pat Seeker (MVS).

Along with going toward protecting your employment, contributing a minimal amount to APWU COPA entitles you to belong to our Minneapolis Area Local COPA Club and all the benefits we will be making COPA Club members eligible for!  Read anyone of our posted COPA Thermometers for details or call 612-623-0677 with any questions you may have!

The sooner you contribute the more drawings you will be eligible for and you can continue to win provided your name is drawn! In order to be eligible for our drawings you have to contribute at least ten dollars cash, check, or credit card or have signed up through PostalEase or Electronic Transfer of Funds (EFT) from your bank.  Provided PostalEase and EFT contributors continue to donate to COPA through those vehicles they will be eligible for our COPA Club incentives just as the cash pay members.  Also – Look for exciting news about an upcoming COPA appreciation night for all our COPA Club members coming this fall! It’s never too late to belong!

2006-2007 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS HAVE BEEN DRAWN!

Twenty nine applications were received by the April 1, 2006 deadline for the Minneapolis Area Local’s annual two thousand dollar scholarship.  Pursuant to our scholarship rules the names of the four winners were drawn at our April 24, 2006 General Membership Meeting.  Our 2006-2007 winners (followed by their parent) are:  Amanda Vogt, Patrick Vogt - Christina Platt, David Platt – Alycia Paulus, Jeff Paulus – Debra Krein, David and Incha Krein. Our first runner up is Jackie Pham, Phuong Pham.

Congratulations to all and we will be looking forward to hearing a little from our winners for reporting in our September issue of the Northern Light.

IT PAYS TO BELONG!

In addition to securing living wages, pension benefits, and defending the current trend of eliminating Union jobs, our Union continually searches for ways to enhance the lives of all those we represent.  Two examples are above!  Additionally, our Local Dental Plan and annual subsidy of Valley Fair and the Faust Terwedo Tournament are just a few of the many services we provide for our members.  We hope to be announcing a huge event that we will sponsor this fall in our attempt to initiate what we feel will become an annual event, with food, fun, and socializing available for all members!  ALL Postal Workers represented by the Minneapolis Area Local will have the opportunity to be included, and involved!  Watch your flash bulletins closely!
