Flash Bulletins are paid for by members of the APWU. Information contained in these bulletins is intended for APWU members. Member questions and/or comments regarding any flash bulletin content are always encouraged. Reading of publications prepared for and financed by dues paying members by those who do not is yet one more example of non-members accepting benefits that have been paid for by others!

COPA CLUB YIELDS MORE WINNERS!

Brothers and Sisters, due to purchasing Valleyfair tickets through their group sales program, Valleyfair traditionally gives the local a various number of complimentary (good any day) tickets to the park! This year we were sent 6 tickets and have taken this opportunity to draw 3 names from our list of COPA CLUB members for a pair of Valleyfair tickets.

Congratulations to:  Jerry Kolb (MVS), Kip Narbo (Clerk Craft), and Tedd Bennethum (MVS).  To date our COPA CLUB has yielded 15 winners of cash and/or merchandise.

  • Entry in to the club is as easy as donating $10.
Your check made out to “APWU COPA” can be sent  to:

APWU MILITARY VETERAN NEWS!

In May 2006, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) learned that an employee, a data analyst, took home electronic data from VA that was stored in his home on a laptop computer and external hard drive.  This data was subsequently stolen from his home.

The data lost is primarily limited to an individual's name, date of birth, and social security number. In some cases, spousal information may have been included.  The VA has determined that information on up to 26.5 million veterans may have been compromised.

What should I do to protect myself? Do I have to close my bank account or cancel my credit cards?

At this point there is no evidence that any missing data has been used illegally. However, VA is asking all veterans to be extra vigilant and to carefully monitor bank statements, credit card statements, and any statements relating to recent financial transactions, and to immediately report any suspicious or unusual activity.

For tips on how to guard against misuse of personal information, visit the Federal Trade Commission website at http://www.ftc.gov/.  You do not have to close your bank account or cancel your credit cards. You should, however, take steps to protect yourself against identity theft.

One way to monitor your financial accounts is to review your credit report. By law you are entitled to one free credit report each year. Request a free credit report from one of the three major credit bureaus – Equifax, Experian, TransUnion – at www.AnnualCreditReport.com or by calling 1-877-322-8228.
