Flash Bulletins are paid for by members of the APWU. Information contained in these bulletins is intended for APWU members. Member questions and/or comments regarding any flash bulletin content are always encouraged. Reading of publications prepared for and financed by dues paying members by those who do not is yet one more example of non-members accepting benefits that have been paid for by others! 

NEW VETERAN AFFAIRS COORDINATOR!

Due to a vacancy in our Veteran Affairs Coordinator position we solicited for members interested in filling that position in our flash bulletin of June 1, 2006.  After receiving letters of interest regarding our position from several exceptional candidates we are pleased to announce that Lorne Henkel has been appointed as your new Veteran Affairs Coordinator effective as of July 1, 2006.

Lorne is a veteran of the Marine Corps and currently serves the local as a Steward and Alternate Steward on Tours 1 & 3 at the Twin Cities Metro Hub.  We are excited that Lorne has stepped forward to fill an important position within the Minneapolis Area Local and look forward to how he will use his experience and energy on behalf of all Veterans!  Until further notice any messages or questions for Lorne can be left at 612-623-0677!

GAME FAIR!

Discounted tickets for America’s original game fair are available to members by calling 612-623-0677.  This is the 25^th anniversary of the game fair that is held at the Armstrong Ranch in Ramsey.  The dates for this years event are August 11, 12, 13, & 18, 19, 20.   August 19^th is a special “Pheasants forever” day at the game fair!  For every $1.00 off coupon redeemed at the game fair $3.00 will go toward the “Build a Wildlife Area” fund!

If you and/or your family will be going, make sure you stop by the Union booth at the game fair!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

On Saturday, September 16, 2006, the Minneapolis Area Local will be sponsoring and hosting our initial “COPA CLUB APPRECIATION & CASINO NIGHT.”  In what we hope will become an annual event for our members, we will have free food and beverages for all our eligible 2006 COPA Club members along with free “Casino Money” COPA Club members can use to play any one of several games we will be providing with professional dealers etc. 

In addition, many prize drawings will be conducted and held all while everyone socializes and has a great time!  This will be a huge event and we will need as many volunteers as possible to help work the event and make sure all have a good time!

OUR NEXT COPA CLUB APPRECIATION & CASINO NIGHT MEETING WILL BE JULY 29^th AT 12:30 pm at our Union Hall located at 1234 4^th St NE  in Northeast Minneapolis. Lunch will be provided for those in attendance.  At this meeting we will begin making our COPA Event staffing assignments.  If you can volunteer for this event or you just have questions, please contact our Co-Chair of this event, Peggy Whitney at 612-623-0677.  See you on July 29^th!  Peggy Whitney & Bill Usher are Co-Chairs of this event.

We still have plenty of Valleyfair Tickets available.  We will continue to sell beyond our deadline as long as they remain.  Members can use our online order form found at  www.minneapolisapwu.org

Members that move during the summer months are reminded to please call the APWU Office 612-623-0677 with your new address or if you believe we may not have your correct address.  In the next few weeks we will be doing some important mailings that you will want to receive.

DENTAL PLAN INFORMATION

The new benefits for the Minneapolis Area Local Discount Dental Program with Denticare will be coming out to our membership in the next few weeks.  You will find a $1 change in the premiums for 2006-2007  with our contract year beginning on October 1, 2006.  We know there are members that have been waiting for this program, please watch your mail in the next three weeks.
