Information contained in these bulletins is intended for APWU members. Member questions and/or comments regarding any flash bulletin content are always encouraged. Reading of publications prepared for and financed by dues paying members by those who do not is yet one more example of non-members accepting benefits that have been paid for by others!

COMING TO COPA APPRECIATION NIGHT…
GET YOUR COPA CONTRIBUTIONS IN !!!

Our Minneapolis APWU COPA contributors are going to be treated to an evening of fun, food, beverages, games, & prize chances on Saturday, September 16 at the Sheraton 4 Points across from the TCMH from 7 – 10 PM.

If you have already made at least a $10 or EFT COPA contribution, we will have you set to go and pre-registered at the door.  If you are bringing a spouse, or have not yet made your contribution, we can take you at the door.  We can speed you along if you get your contribution over to our Union Office by 3:30 PM Wednesday, September 13 , that will pre-register you (or your spouse) to express you through to the fun-games-prizes-food beverages & socializing.

We will have casino games to play if you wish to try to enhance your chances for the prize drawings, or you can just enter the prize drawings and enjoy the festivities.  What ever is your pleasure, we hope this to be an annual event supporting our year round COPA Campaign.  Don’t delay – contribute today!

AMERICA’S WALK FOR DIABETES

In the next couple of weeks, a co-worker may approach you to make a donation to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Please be as generous as you can. A group of your co-workers has volunteered their time to raise money to fight diabetes by participating in the ADA's America's Walk for Diabetes on September 30, 2006.

The money they raise will help the ADA work towards a cure and improve the lives of people affected by diabetes. That means over 16 million Americans will benefit from their efforts. It may be hard to believe, but diabetes is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. Each year over 12,000 Americans lose their sight to diabetes and 54,000 Americans lose a foot or a leg to diabetes.

If you would like to make a donation but are not approached by one of our postal team members, you can send a check made out to the American Diabetes Association to the Minneapolis Area Local, APWU office at 1234 Fourth Street NE, Mpls, MN 55413.

Your APWU Team Members are: Marilyn Miller, Tracy Greene, Ethel Wynde, Ifeoma Njaka, Cathy Naughton, Bill Usher, Gene Artishon, Tom Woehrle, Jerry Sirois, and Sue Herther. Your team would like to thank everyone for their past support and help this year.

It Pays To Belong !!!

The next Cost of Living Increase ( COLA) effective September 2nd and reflected on the September 22nd paycheck is $812 per year which amounts to 39 cents per hour !  Since March 18, 2006 a level 5 step O employee has received the equivalent of $1.18 per hour increase with contractual salary and COLA adjustments!  These increases are made possible by Dues Paying Members as we are able to negotiate decent wages and benefits as a result of Union Membership! Don’t be fooled into thinking the Postal Service would voluntarily provide salary increases of this magnitude for employees if there was no contractual obligation to do so!  Protect future wages – sign up a non-member today!
