COPA Appreciation Night A Huge Success!!!!

The COPA Appreciation and Casino Night on September 16th was a fun and exciting night for all who participated!!!  Plenty of food, socializing and entertainment was enjoyed by everyone and old friendships were renewed, all for a most important cause – COPA!!   Be sure to keep those COPA contributions coming in as fall elections are just around the corner and many issues affecting Postal Workers are sure to be on the political agenda.  A special thanks to all of the people who put the time and energy into making this event the successful night that it was!  Although there were many raffle prize winners throughout the evening- Special Congratulations to the following COPA contributors who won the Casino event grand prizes:

Tangyi Brooks-HD TV and DVD combo
John Fritze-Camcorder
Peggy Whitney-Digital camera
Kathy Walker-250 Rainbow gift card
Sue Herther -Shelf stereo system
Becky Spensley- $100 Rainbow gift card
Gary O’Connell-DVD player
Marlus Jackson-$50 Rainbow gift card

See you all at next year’s COPA Contributor Appreciation Event!  Remember – The earlier you contribute each year the more chances you have to win!

2006 COPA Club Yields More Winners!

Our main catalyst for COPA contributions throughout the year is our COPA CLUB that begins on January 1st each year.  Each year, besides the fact that these contributions go directly toward enhancing our continued ability to have decent jobs, the local provides incentives for our contributors.

This year we draw six names from our list of contributors each time the “COPA Thermometer” hits a $2000 level!  We then award each person drawn with a $100 check!  To date we have drawn winners for the $2000 level, $4000 level, and $6000 level!  Some of our contributors, who have taken the initiative to get in the COPA Club early, by Postal Ease, or Electronic Transfer of Funds, have won more than once!   On Friday, September 15, 2006, we exceeded the $8000 level!    We have drawn more names and are pleased to announce we have six more winners of $100 each!

Congratulations to:  Jerry Kolb – MVS, Dave Lodemeier – MVS, Michael Nimz – Maintenance, Richard Anderson - Clerk Craft, John White – MVS, and Earl Miller – Retired.   Your checks are on their way!

As a result of our supplemental COPA appreciation event we anticipate going over the $10,000 and $12,000 levels very soon!  We also anticipate that all who are present COPA Club members through Postal Ease (PE) or Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) through their banking institution will be immediately enrolled in our future COPA Clubs as of January 1st each New Year!   The earlier one contributes at least $10 cash or through PE or EFT the more chances they will have to win!  Add all the tangible benefits up Brothers and Sisters!  Each year you could search near and far and never come up with a better way to insure your job, plus be eligible for cash drawings and any future appreciation events the local sponsors!

SUPPORT OUR TEAM IN AMERICA’S WALK FOR DIABETES

In the next couple of weeks, a co?worker may approach you to make a donation to the American Diabetes Association (ADA). Please be as generous as you can. A group of your co?workers has volunteered their time to raise money to fight diabetes by participating in the ADA's America's Walk for Diabetes on September 30, 2006.

The money they raise will help the ADA work towards a cure and improve the lives of people affected by diabetes. That means over 16 million Americans will benefit from their efforts. It may be hard to believe, but diabetes is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. Each year over 12,000 Americans lose their sight to diabetes and 54,000 Americans lose a foot or a leg to diabetes.

If you would like to make a donation but are not approached by one of our postal team members, you can send a check made out to the American Diabetes Association to the Minneapolis Area Local, APWU office at 1234 Fourth Street NE, Mpls, MN 55413.

Your APWU Team Members are: Marilyn Miller, Tracy Greene, Ethel Wynde, Ifeoma Njaka, Cathy Naughton, Bill Usher, Gene Artishon, Tom Woehrle, Jerry Sirois, Dave Schuette and Sue Herther. Your team would like to thank everyone for their past support and help this year.
