To Members of ALL Postal Unions!

CALL TO RALLY TO
SAVE OUR MAIL SERVICE!
MINNESOTA POSTAL WORKERS WARN OF THREAT TO MAIL SERVICE FROM NATIONAL CUTS

Event will highlight impact of secret Washington Plan that could cause permanent disruption in mail service as much as one week or longer!

When: Thursday, November 2, 2006.  11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Where: Minneapolis Main Post Office – 100 S 1st Street

What: Minnesota Postal Workers and affiliates will hold a rally and press conference event as part of a national week of informational rallies to inform citizens and press about a recently uncovered secret Postal Service plan that could hurt mail service in Minnesota, Minneapolis, St. Paul and surrounding suburbs. If implemented, the plan could mean slower, less reliable service for our area:  mail would be collected earlier but delivered   later in the day and could be delayed as long as an entire week.

Who: Local postal workers, community leaders, activists, and concerned individuals.

Background:    Recently the United States Postal service was forced to reveal plans outlining 139 postal facilities across the country they are targeting for consolidation.  If implemented, the plan could mean significant disruptions to the mail service across the country, including in Minneapolis: mail delivery and pick up could be seriously delayed.  Conceived in Washington, the plan will disproportionately help big corporate special interests such as huge advertising mailers who presort their mail, at the expense of local business owners and citizens.  The plan comes on the heels of several reports criticizing the Postal Service for proposing to give excessive discounts to large corporate mailers at the expense of individuals and small businesses.

Testimony has also been critical of the USPS failure to consult with citizens or their representatives in impacted communities prior to attempting implementation of plans that could severely affect their service.  The U.S. Postal Service was created to serve all citizens, not just big special interests.

Postal workers are informing local citizens about this plan along with what they can do to fight it, starting with calling the Save Our Service Campaign Hotline at:
