COMMITTEE APPOINTMENTS

If you would like to serve on a committee or just want more information please contact Jerry ASAP.  Our active committee choices are:  Legislative/Organization - Human Relations – Constitution – Safety and Health – Social and Recreation, or the Entertainment Committee.  Our intent will be to keep the present committee appointments in tact unless interested parties come forward and we have the opportunity to enhance our present structure.

VETERANS AFFAIRS COORDINATOR

Due to his recent election to the Office of Assistant Director, Clerk Craft, Tour 3, Lorne Henkel will Step down as our Veteran’s Affairs Coordinator effective May 1, 2007.  We thank Lorne for his involvement and look forward to Lorne’s continued involvement in his new position.  Effective immediately we are inviting members interested in being appointed as our Veterans Affairs Coordinator to contact us at 612-623-0677.  Those interested should posses a keen ability to investigate, research, report and educate our current members and their families about issues related to our Armed Forces and programs available that may affect them.  Veterans are always a primary focus; however, we don’t want to limit our focus.  Particularly in these times where we have seen an increase in our Government utilizing Armed Forces personnel (who have spouses and/or siblings) in combat situations!  Please send us a brief written summary describing your interest in the position and what you can bring to the table for our Veterans and their families!

COPA Club Yields More Winners!

In 2006 the Minneapolis Area COPA club delivered our largest amount yet (over $14,000) to our Political war chest.  The Minneapolis Area Local was the largest local contributor in the state and just as planned we have steadily increased our yearly COPA contributors!  We can all be proud that several former Minnesota candidates for federal election who have received APWU COPA dollars have went on to win their elections!   These newly elected Legislators are very attentive when we apprise them of problems that confront us as Postal Workers and our contact sources are well developed.  APWU COPA (in part) has made this possible and as we continue building our COPA club involvement locally the ease of our legislative contact and response will go hand in hand!

To date our COPA Thermometer has broken the $2000 level and is soaring toward the $4000 level as nearly 65% of contributors have opted to make their donations as effortless as possible by initiating their contribution through Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) or Postal Ease (PE)!  Our yearly goal is to break the $20,000 top out of our COPA Thermometer!  We are well on our way but need everyone’s involvement to make it!

In keeping with our 2007 COPA club incentives we have drawn the names of COPA club members who will be presented with $100 each!

Congratulations to:  Mary Tiffany (Maple Plain) Steven Plum (MVS) Michael Nimz (Minneapolis P&DC) Martin Kirsch (Bloomington) Mark Lang (Minneapolis P&DC) and Les Saefke (Retired). Your checks are on their way!

COPA contributions are always an excellent way to help maintain our benefits!  In January we mailed out a 2007 leave chart along with all the details of this years club and incentives!  A brief recap is that a minimum contribution of $10 or contributions through PE or EFT is all it takes to get your name in for regular drawings of great prizes and/or cash!  Get the whole family involved!  Instead of buying that $10 of scratch offs why not enter your COPA club and be eligible for multiple prize and/or cash drawings?  As always, anyone who would like additional details are always invited to ask your steward or call us at 612-623-0677 with any input you may have.
