Editor, Northern Light

Your Editor, Northern Light is Cathy Hanson.

My name is Cathy Hanson and I've been here at the Minneapolis Main Office since February, 1986. I started in Banks in the Box Section, worked Pouch Rack/Loose Pack for a couple years and then went part time on Tour 1. I spent 12 years there in the Manager's Office with varying titles, but it was mainly General Clerk work. Went to the VMF for 15 months in 2005, but came back because I just couldn't be a day person! I am the Contract Tech for the Minneapolis Plant and the Twin City Metro Hub now. I love my job and am extremely grateful I took that test so long ago!

I've been the Editor for the Northern Light since 2002. The National Convention was here in Minneapolis that year and that September was my first one. Looking back on that first issue, and holding the current one in my hand, we have come a long way! In that time, The Northern Light has won 5 National Awards from the Postal Press Association. I am proud to be affiliated with them and am also an Editor-at-Large on the Advisory Committee for the Postal Press Association. As such, I can't enter our publication or website anymore for the awards but it's still nice to know the Minneapolis Area Local APWU is well represented on a national level. I love being the Editor and most of all, it lets me be involved in my Union. It gives me an excuse to talk to people about the Union and what it means to be a part of it.
